Both Deceased Students Revealed in Brown University Attack as Authorities Press On With Manhunt for Gunman.

Two students who died in the recent tragic incident at Brown University were honored at the start of the week – amid a widespread hunt for their assailant carried on following the freeing by local law enforcement of the sole person of interest in the case.

Remembering Ella Cook

The young woman Ella Cook, a second-year scholar from Alabama, was remembered as “an incredible, grounded, faithful, bright light”, according to the Birmingham's Cathedral Church of the Advent, which honored her memory at a ceremony on Sunday.

Her role included vice-president of Brown’s chapter of the College Republicans organization, the group said. Karoline Leavitt also posted sympathies online, stating: “There are no words. Remembering her family and friends, especially her parents.”

MukhammadAziz Umurzokov

The other deceased individual was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov from Uzbekistan, a citizen of Uzbekistan in his freshman year at the Ivy League university, his family confirmed.

The victim's identification was verified by Uzbekistan’s foreign ministry.

“He possessed remarkable kindness, humor, and intelligence. He had big dreams of entering the field of neurosurgery and aiding others,” his sister, Samira Umurzokova said in a memorial statement.

The Shooting Incident

Nine other people were wounded in the weekend shooting in the school of engineering of Brown’s campus in Providence, during the school’s final exam period.

Law enforcement reported on Sunday evening that a 24-year-man detained in a search at a hotel about 17 miles from the scene earlier in the day was set to be freed.

“There is a killer at large,” declared Rhode Island’s attorney general, Peter Neronha.

He added, “Occasionally a probe goes down a path, and then you must reassess and go in another, and that’s exactly what has happened over the last day or so.”

Ongoing Concerns

Brett Smiley, Brett Smiley, admitted: “We know that this is likely to cause renewed concern for our public”.

The gunman opened fire inside a room in the building on Saturday, shooting over four dozen bullets from a handgun, a authority reported to the news agency.

Police that raided the hotel seized a pair of pistols and two loaded 30-round magazines when the individual was detained, according to reports.

Cook was honored at a religious service in Birmingham on Sunday. A pastor commented, “She shone as a remarkable, stable, devout beacon not only here growing up... but at Brown University she was a shining example in that particular place as well.”

The president of College Republicans, Martin Bertao, posted a statement from the group. “Ella was known for her fearless, heroic, and gentle spirit as she worked for her branch and other students,” he said.
