President Trump Welcomes Relatives of Shot National Guard Members to White House

Former President Trump announced on Sunday that he has asked the relatives of a Guard member fatally shot last week to attend the presidential home.

He mentioned that he spoke to her family and they were “deeply grieving”.

Background on the Tragic Shooting

Specialist Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a shooting on Wednesday in Washington DC.

Her colleague, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still in the hospital in serious condition.

Memorials across the state have been held in their remembrance.

Presidential Invitation

The president stated he’s talked about a meeting at the presidential residence for the parents of both members of the state Guard.

“I stated: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a difficult moment, come to the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to Sarah,” the president informed journalists. “And similarly with him, whether he recovers or not.”

Public Reaction

Mourners gathered over the past few days at a local school in West Virginia to remember Beckstrom.

Both she and Wolfe had been fulfilling duties with the military unit as part of Trump’s national effort to support law enforcement in the capital.

Honoring Sarah Beckstrom

“Sarah was the individual that educators desired. She carried herself with inner fortitude, a bright grin and a upbeat demeanor that lifted people around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the principal of Beckstrom’s previous school, stated to the Associated Press. “She was kind, caring and always willing to assist people.”

Funeral plans for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.

Judicial Measures and Policy Adjustments

Officials have indicted a twenty-nine-year-old individual from Afghanistan with a charge of murder and charges of assault with intent to kill while armed.

The incident led the government to suspend refugee claims and temporarily stop granting visas to holders of passports from Afghanistan.

Status of the Airman

Wolfe, a resident of Martinsburg, started his military career in early 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman high school, as reported by the AP.

He continues to receive treatment and is “battling to survive”, the state’s leader Morrisey said on a news program.

Attorney general Pam Bondi stated on Fox News Sunday that she planned to meet with the family.

Memory of Sarah Beckstrom

Sarah, from her hometown, completed her education from her high school in June 2023 and joined the military shortly after, serving as a MP with excellence, per the West Virginia National Guard.

“She had a lot of compassion and she absolutely had fortitude,” the governor addressed the gathering at the memorial. “Though her time ended too soon, she has made an impact that’s going to be remembered always.”
