Vince Gilligan Reveals He Knows How The Apple TV+ Show Will Conclude... Currently.
The creative mastermind never anticipated that Pluribus would emerge as a cultural phenomenon. “The viewers have been incredible,” he states. “It was unexpected the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”
Now that Season 1 of the acclaimed sci-fi show coming to an end—and Season 2 greenlit and underway—the creative team opened up about the audience reaction and whether it will shape the narrative path of Pluribus.
On the Tremendous Viewer Reception
Anyone might to get sidetracked by the rampant praise and online debates regarding Pluribus. The creator is making a conscious effort to steer clear of all that.
“It's like being constantly eating your favorite dessert and being in a state of bliss,” he describes. “It's wonderful, but I hear about it anecdotally, and that's intentional. I have never Googled myself, nor do I ever want to. Not because I don't care. It's a bottomless pit I know I would disappear down and then I'd be living in squalor from the hardware store and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”
Regardless of his concerted efforts, there’s it's impossible to ignore the immensely favorable response to the series. The most practical strategy is to take it in stride and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.
“It is not our goal to adjust our writing,” says Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not changed by audience chatter.”
“We prefer to keep our heads down and working,” Gilligan concludes.
A Pressing Query: Does Vince Gilligan Know the Conclusion of Pluribus?
So if the creative staff are not listening by audience theories, does that mean they have already decided how Pluribus will finally conclude? The answer is yes… with some caveats.
“There are some interesting ideas about the ultimate destination,” he states. “yet we stand ready to discard a good idea for a superior concept. This approach has served us in good stead on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we get a better idea and I imagine we will be doing that.”
On the other hand, if plans fall through, Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to fall back on.
“I constantly suggest that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and that's where they've been all along,” Smith jokes, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”
Alternatively, why mess with the legendary finales?
“My dream is Carol to awaken with Bob Newhart there,” he jokes.
