World Series Game 7 Draws 51 Million Viewers In the United States, Canadian and Japan Regions.

The exciting extra-inning clash where the Dodgers overcome the Toronto Blue Jays by one run attracted a combined over 50 million viewers across the United States, Canadian, and Japanese territories. MLB announced this marks the most-watched World Series finale since the 1991 edition contest featuring the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Details

Last Saturday’s epic contest averaged over 27 million viewers on Fox Sports channels, Fox Deportes and Fox’s digital services. Per ratings data, it was the second most-watched program of the week.

It also stands as the most-watched Fall Classic matchup since the 2017 edition final game between the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew over 29 million. This marks a 16% increase over the last finale featuring the Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19 million.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game placed fourth, the fourth game was 7th, the fifth game came in eighth, and Game 3 finished in 13th place.

Global Viewership Numbers

In the Canadian market, the game recorded over 11 million viewers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports. This was the most-watched English-language broadcast in Canada after the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding game started at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it drew 12 million. This followed the previous Friday’s sixth game – in which Fall Classic MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up one run in six frames – averaged 13.1M viewers, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic matchup on a single network in Japan.

Overall Totals and Patterns

The full seven-game series averaged over 15.7 million viewers on Fox, a two percent increase from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This marks the initial instance after 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has recorded viewership increases for two straight seasons.

Including the opening game broadcast on Univision, the complete US viewership reached over 16 million. The overall World Series average in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 recorded 8.09M viewers, an eight percent rise over the previous year and Fox’s strongest playoff ratings since 2017.

Major League Baseball announced that the World Series was broadcast in over 200 nations and regions by forty-four media partners in sixteen various languages.
